Integrating Technology to Creating Engaging Digital Learning Environment

This is Anasuya Chowdhury, a high school math teacher in HISD. I have been teaching in HISD for 13 years. Currently, I am teaching AP Precalculus, and serving as a Math Department Chair as well. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from India. I also have completed Post
Baccalaureate in C&I Math and am in the process of getting a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology. My objective is to integrate technology in instruction to enhance learning and my
goal is to become Curriculum Specialist at the district level.
My other passion is music; I am a mom of a 23-year-old daughter and a wife of an awesome husband.

In this Blog,  I would like to emphasize on how important is to integrate technology in education to create an Advance Digital Learning Environment.
Among the five learning contexts of PK-12 environment, the most prevalent type of instruction is face-to face instruction; teachers and students are sharing the same classroom environment. To create an interactive and engaging learning environment, there is a significant scope to use technology- by using Clickers teachers can collect student opinions, by using various platforms like Padlet, Canvas etc. teachers engage students into discussion, giving immediate real-time feedback by using PearDeck. In my classroom, specifically for a large group,  I use Microsoft Whiteboard, write on my iPad and project on my Smart Board while moving around the classroom so that no students sitting in the back feel left out. In a flip classroom settings, teachers can assign related  videos before instruction. In HISD schools, Canvas is being used as LMS, students have their own laptops. So, it’s easier for teachers to put videos and learning resources on Canvas for students to access. This is not only a tool for enforce learning but also very helpful for absence students.
In addition, in Blended and Distance Learning settings, seamless integration of technology plays a very important role in students outcomes. As online education grows worldwide, educators need to engage themselves in various Professional Development activities to create an engaging digital learning environment.
